When workplace harassment is a crime, such as sexual assault or criminal harassment, there are a number of remedies.

When workplace harassment that is a crime is reported to the police the victim can:

If the police charge the harasser and they are convicted of a crime the court can:

  • Order the harasser to have no contact with the victim.
  • Place the harasser on probation.
  • Order the harasser to pay restitution to cover expenses the victim has incurred or damages to their property.
  • Fine the harasser.
  • Sentence the harasser to jail time.

Under The Privacy Act victims of unauthorized sharing of images have several remedies to address the harm caused by this type of abusive behaviour including...

  • monetary damages
  • injunctions (prohibiting further distribution)
  • recovery of any profits the defendant received as a result of the distribution of an intimate image
