GOALS

After completing this module you will understand:

  • Help Occupational Health and Safety can provide if there is a concern about harassment in a workplace.
  • How and when a complaint about harassment can be made to Occupational Health and Safety.
  • The remedies that are available and not available through Occupational Health and Safety.
  • The process for discriminatory action complaints and remedies available.
  • What happens when an Occupational Health and Safety Committee or Representative refers a matter to Occupational Health and Safety.

Role of Occupational Health and Safety

Occupational Health and Safety can provide advice about employers’ obligations under occupational health and safety laws, assist with an investigation, and help the parties resolve a complaint through mediation.

Occupational Health and Safety Complaints

Workers can file a complaint with the Harassment and Discriminatory Action Prevention Unit of Occupational Health and Safety. If there has been a violation of occupational health and safety laws they can take action.

Referral by a Committee or Representative

Some workplaces are required to have an Occupational Health and Safety Committee or Representative. They can raise a health or safety issue with the employer.
