GOAL

After completing this module you will understand:

  • The information that must be in a workplace’s Harassment Prevention Policy regarding complaints and investigations.
  • Confidentiality requirements for complaints.
  • The complaint process.
  • Investigations into harassment complaints and worker’s rights during investigations.
  • What happens after an investigation if there is no finding of harassment and if there is a finding of harassment.
  • The prohibition against any reprisal or retaliation against a worker who makes a complaint and possible consequences if this happens.

Complaint Process

This section outlines the complaint process including who receives complaints, what should be in them and confidentiality requirements.

Investigations

Employers are required to ensure that there is an investigation into any incident of workplace harassment. Workers have certain rights during an investigation.

After the Investigation

Employers have certain obligations once an investigation is complete. These include communicating the results to the appropriate people, taking corrective action if necessary and protecting those involved in the process from any reprisal or retaliation.
