Role of Workers

Although workers do not have the same control over the work environment that employers have, they also have obligations under The Saskatchewan Employment Act to prevent workplace harassment.

For the purpose of occupational health and safety laws, worker includes a student who the employer allows to work or who the employer is training.

  • Workers have a duty to take reasonable care to protect their own health and safety.
  • Workers have a duty to take reasonable care to protect the health and safety of other workers who could be affected by their actions.
  • Workers must comply with health and safety standards.
  • Workers must refrain from causing or participating in the harassment of a worker, volunteer or independent contractor in the workplace.

Employers, supervisors and workers must all cooperate with anyone who is fulfilling their duties under the occupational health and safety part of The Saskatchewan Employment Act.

PLEA offers free online training on preventing and addressing workplace harassment.
