Contents of a Harassment and Violence Prevention Policy

Employers must have Harassment and Violence Prevention policies that contain the required information.

The employer must make the policy available to all employees.

The Harassment and Violence Prevention policy must include:

  • The employer’s mission statement about preventing and protecting against harassment and violence in the workplace.
  • A description of the role employers, employees, and others play in relation to harassment and violence in the workplace.
  • A description of the risk factors that contribute to harassment and violence in their workplace.
  • A summary of the training that will be provided regarding workplace harassment and violence.
  • A summary of the resolution process when there has been harassment or violence.
  • A description of when an assessment of risks in the workplace regarding harassment and violence must be reviewed and updated.
  • A summary of the emergency procedures that must be implemented when there is immediate danger to the health and safety of an employee or when there is a threat of immediate danger because of harassment or violence.
  • A description of how the employer will protect the privacy of persons involved in an incident of harassment or violence or in the process of resolving an incident of harassment or violence.
  • A description of other options available to people involved in an incident of harassment or violence.
  • A description of the support measures that are available to employees regarding workplace harassment or violence.
  • The name of the person designated to receive notice of an occurrence of harassment or violence, if any.
  • The name of the person designated to receive complaints about non-compliance with the Canada Labour Code. (This can be the same person who receives notices of occurrences of harassment or violence or a different person).
