Workplace Harassment or Violence: Laws and Policies

Below is a summary of the laws and policies that deal with harassment or violence in the workplace.

  • Workplace Harassment and Violence violates workplace Harassment and Violence Prevention Policies.
  • Workplace Harassment and Violence is prohibited by the Canada Labour Code and the Workplace Harassment and Violence Prevention Regulations.
  • Workplace Harassment on a prohibited ground is discrimination under the Canadian Human Rights Act.
  • Workplace Harassment or Violence in unionized workplaces is a violation of the Collective Agreement.
  • Workplace Harassment or Violence can be a crime if it involves assault, criminal harassment, intimidation, uttering threats, indecent or harassing telephone calls, extortion, the sharing of intimate images or any other action that is a crime under the Criminal Code.
